Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori North American Tour 2024

Italian Air Force Chief of Staff Luca Goretti announced today that the Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori will embark on a tour of North America in 2024.  This will be the first time since 1992 that their signature red, white and green smoke has been seen over the United States or Canada.

The team is visiting Canada to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.  While in the United States the Frecce Tricolori will perform a flyover of the Italian Navy tall ship Amerigo Vespucci as well as other iconic U.S. landmarks to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Giovanni da Verrazzano’s expedition to America in 1524.

The Frecce Tricolori, also known as the “Tricolour Arrows” in English, are officially designated as the 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale (English translation: 313th Acrobatic Training Group, National Aerobatic Team). Frecce Tricolori was established on March 1, 1961, at Rivolto Air Base in the province of Udine. The team operates the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat fighter-trainer craft. Comprising ten aircraft, including nine in close formation and a soloist, they hold the distinction of being the world’s largest acrobatic patrol. Their 30-minute display showcases awe-inspiring skills, bringing a touch of Italian flair to the skies over the United States and Canada.

With the permission of the Italian citizens next year we will go to the United States, we will go to Canada, to represent the best that is our country.  – General Luca Goretti, Italian Air Force Chief of Staff
